On 4th September, the Government Equalities Office published the report Closing the Gap: Women Take Part highlighting what needs to be done to get more underrepresented groups of women to play an active role in civic and civil life. The project was launched in Autumn 2007 to identify what currently exists to support women from underrepresented groups to become active in public life and the key elements likely to have a long term and sustainable impact. The report brings together the findings of this research which included a national event held in Birmingham bringing together women and organisations that recruit people to local decision making and governance roles.
